Éco-jardin Majunga

As part of the construction of the Majunga Tower, the Établissement Public d'Aménagement de La Défense Seine Arche (Epadesa) wanted to create an open-air garden, a first in Paris La Défense. Located in Puteaux, at the foot of the Villon district buildings, in the heart of the business district, the garden extends over a total area of 2,300 m². Residents and employees have been able to benefit from this new rest area since 17 August 2015.

This garden gives water a major presence. The central element, the basin is composed of large limestone concrete slabs covered with water. At its top are rain rods from which drops of water flow at certain times of the day. Plants (birches, willows, rowan trees) are species from Ile-de-France. The water in the pool is recycled and reused in the pool (closed circuit), rainwater supplies the plants, there is no automatic watering. A children's playground and a petanque ground complete this rest area.

The result of a collaboration between the project management (Artelia Bet, Arpentere Paysagiste and Zekton Concept Fontaine), the City of Puteaux and the Epadesa teams, the garden, accessible to people with reduced mobility, will be a new place for relaxation and life for the inhabitants and employees of the district. For its realization, Epadesa has invested approximately 1.7 million euros. The management of the garden was handed over to Defacto, a public management establishment for the La Défense business district.

Finally, the presence of a wide variety of plants, flowers and berries will encourage insects and birds to establish themselves in a biodiversity context. L'Epadesa has designed this space to obtain the "Eco-garden" label. Set up by private and public actors and supported by the Ministry of Sustainable Development, this initiative is intended to reward innovations in environmentally friendly practices.
