About Paris La Défense
A key stage in the development of the top European business district
On 1st January 2018 the business district will reach a new turning point in its history, with the merger of EPADESA (Établissement Public d’Aménagement de La Défense Seine Arche) and Defacto (Établissement Public de Gestion et d’Animation de La Défense) into a single local public institution: Paris La Défense.
This much-needed transfer of governance from the State to local authorities is in response to the challenge of modernising the business district and ensuring its continued attractiveness. The most important task is to transform the district into a place where people can live as well as work. There will also need to be renovation, with an overhaul of public spaces and infrastructure across the district.
A local public institution with international ambitions
The new institution will be led by a board of directors made up of representatives from the Hauts-de-Seine Departmental Council, the cities of Courbevoie, Puteaux, Nanterre and Paris, the Île-de-France Region and the Greater Paris Metropolitan Authority. Alongside them will be two qualified persons appointed by the Minister for Territorial Cohesion and Minister for Finance and the Economy.
Paris La Défense will have responsibility for both planning and management, allowing it to drive the district’s development forward and compete with its international rivals. The institution will continue to deliver day-to-day management, whilst developing activities in public spaces and other urban projects.
The first steps of the merged institution
On January 1st 2018, the EPADESA and Defacto teams will be transferred across to the new institution – Paris La Défense – along with existing contractual commitments.
The first meeting of the Board of Directors will be to elect the Chairman of Paris La Défense. At the second meeting, the Managing Director of Paris La Défense will be appointed.
During the interim period, Marie-Célie Guillaume will act as Managing Director.
