Eole: update on the progress of the CNIT station and virtual visit
The Eole project, on which work began in 2016, aims to extend the RER E line by 55 kilometres to the west and to build a new station in the large cathedral under the CNIT. With a year to go before Eole is due to enter service, we take a look at the progress of the work and discover the completed CNIT station thanks to a virtual visit.
Over the last few months, the Eole worksite has progressed at an impressive rate. At the beginning of 2020, the earthworks were just in the preparatory phase and, in less than a year, more than 120,000 sq.m. had been excavated. The main earthwork for the station is now fully completed. In January this year, two new station tunnels were opened and connected to the body of the new station, a symbolic step as this is the last tunnel to be driven.

Track-laying and building operations will begin in the summer of 2021, and the transfer corridors, station entrance and civil engineering work should be completed by the end of the year. The connecting corridors with Transilien line L and U and tramway 2 require major work under the tramway tracks, which will result in a four-week interruption to traffic this summer.
